Some more cafe sketching:

That last guy's face looked so much— I wish I'd captured it better, maybe I overmodeled the eye sockets and lost that graphic quality— so much like a warrior from an ukiyo-e print.

A photoshop-painted view of a bit of the UC Berkeley campus from a cafe across the street, with a great deal of exaggerated darkness and stage lighting.

I recently visited the UC Berkeley Botanical Gardens (the UC one seems enormous compared to one in Tilden I'd sketched in before).

I have findings to report: Australia boasts what must be the tiniest, cutest, most adorable little species of carnivorous pitcher plants in existence on the planet. If Cephalotus Follicularis hasn't been featured yet on Cute Overload, I think it deserves to be.

Conversely, pitcher plants in the Philippines (Nepenthes Truncata)are enormous and monstrous and grotesque, and sometimes eat baby rats.

This movie, Blue Valentine? So well done; so, so sad and painful.

I haven't up to now taken too much interest in Grizzly Bear but their music for the score has made me a convert. And that oldies/soul song that the couple has as "their song"? I'd assumed it was something just obscure enough not to be obvious, but I was amazed to find it was discovered on a rehearsal tape in an estate sale in Ohio, and no one knows the identity of the musicians.

And that same stuff about a bunch of old and new work being added to the site goes for life drawings and photoshop figure paintings as well.
A couple of the photoshop figure paintings I felt like crossposting here because I especially like them. And I especially like them because, well, they're a little bit odd.Collapse )

Current Music: Port O' Brien- Oslo Campfire

I have not been posting because I have been putting my time instead towards throwing a backlog of stuff up on my old website. So if you ever feel inclined, you can see all the digital cafe sketches I've shared here along with many more here.

Crossposting here a selection of four of the newer photoshop cafe sketches:

Here's a recent photoshop figure painting: hereCollapse )

But mainly I just wanted to link to my new favorite thing on the internet: oldbookillustrations on tumblr. I'm on page 90 or so, and I am still greatly enjoying it. And! If you like that sort of thing, there are also these beautiful ink drawings of Victor Hugo's. And more stuff of Victor Hugo's. Maybe this is not your sort of thing, but rest assured, it's mine.

I tried to add an interest:

* Sorry, you have listed an interest with 54 characters, and 8 words. Each interest has a limit of 50 characters, and 4 words. Any changes you made to your interests were not saved. Go back and remove, or modify "the willful eccentricity of still being on livejournal".*

I am disappoint. And they don't allow me enough characters to put "Here To Make You Get Sad And Think About Death And Stuff" in my name field.
